As this is the time to light the candle of the coming light in the warming time, with snow yet upon the hearth, it is a good time to begin planning and preparations for the year ahead. As noted in the Almanac the Mirror will be found in one moon's time in Nion and so I want to give you a list of experiments to complete which are the basis of testing for all Druidic paths. These should prepare you for greater workings and kennings.
Book
First you need a book. It is up to you what colour or design, but I recommend standard notebook size. Black ink to write with. Pencil to draw with, and colours to shade including metallics. A ruler.
Start the book as you wish with any intentions or dedications. Then draw your Almanac. Remember this is a working book and can be as neat or scrawled as you want it to be, though needless to say neatness is necessary for graphs and diagrams and legible writing can be re-read at a later date.
Make any notes or write any ideas or poetry you want to, for instance considerations or declarations on which branch you feel a kin. Achievements you already have or wish to gain. Your family or regional lineage. A mixture of grand and pragmatic is a good idea.
Candle
Prepare yourself and area in a way that feels right to you; this could be a regular spell space, at your work desk or in the comfy chair near the coffee table. The space needs to be enclosed without drafts. Meditate or summon the sense of yourself and aura; you need to relaxed and focused. I recommend very low or no lighting. Think about aethericae, logicae and physicae. How the candle itself is a refined object combining these, how the wick is woven and holds and connects the flame. How the flame is light, ambient, the first forces of self including the separation of the invisible from the dark.
Light the candle. Watch the flame. Meditate on these thoughts.
Draw a diagram in your book noting all the grades of differentials, ratios and proportions of effect. Can you perceive the invisible, the dark in the heart?
Feather
Find a feather. Some feathers work better than others for this. The feather needs to relatively clean and dry and neat.
Hold the feather to your eye level and look through it at ambient light from a candle or lamp roughly an arms length away. You need to soften your focus into the light travelling through the feather and there you will see how the pattern creates the form of the Divine Being. This is created via ae primae distribution as form via separation which becomes complex structure in joining. Eagle feather works best, should you be gifted one.
Draw this in your book; observing angles, ratios and distances.
Wait until the sun is bright in a clear sky. Hold the feather above your face with the sun directly behind it and softly focus on the light traveling through the feather. Here you will see the weaving of the light, ae primae as infinite. Crow feather works best, should you be gifted or find one.
Try your best to capture this in your book, or to write a description. It is very complex and requires quite a high level skill of art. Alternatively you may wish to weave your belt in this pattern with appropriate colours for you.
Keep your feather, this is now sacred to you and your journey.
The Gold Ring
This one may be a little difficult. You need to find a gold ring, of that colour if not purely of that metal, which is shaped like a sovereign and has a completely smooth surface. There must be no markings, engravings or jewels. It does not matter whether is is round or squared. Alternatively you can try to find an object which has the same surface, but with absolutely no lip or risen edge. You need to be able to comfortably hold it between first finger and thumb of your right hand.
In the dark of the night sit comfortably with a lamp lit behind and just above and slightly to the right of your head. Hold the ring very close to your right eye. The left side tucked into your lash, the right held out at an oblique angle as seen between the arm and leg of the Divine being. Softly focus on the ring, see the surface; see the light upon the surface, look deep into this light until you perceive a reflection of the area where the lamp is. Now very, very slowly turn the right side of the ring toward your eye. The image will change through a range of magnification, feel free to pause at each one, always gazing deep into the reflected light. Do not pause too long or blink as you may loose focus. You will see your eyelashes magnified. Keep turning. Keep turning. The final image will be very strange; you see what looks like the space of an optic nerve with photons, green, gold and pink, travelling along it. The amount you see will vary according to which is in your optic nerve at this time. It is possible these are what some of quark theory refers to. They are light particles.
Draw and note observations including how many of which light in your book. Not everyone is able to achieve this. It helps if you have excellent vision and a asymmetrical face. Practise with magic eye pictures is an option.
As of yet this is the most magnified level of vision available, including microscopes. One day I believe understanding this experiment and employing the physics of it will enabled a greater level of machine magnification where we will be able to see and examine the structure of tiny particles.
